The Nigeria Girls Guide Association (NGGA), Afikpo, is gearing up for its 2026 Spelling Bee Competition, scheduled to hold on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Amaechara Health Centre, Afikpo North Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.
Ahead of the competition, the organisers have released the official word lists for the two participating categories: Junior and Senior. The lists were compiled by Dr. Gift Adene and was released on October 17, 2026, to help participating pupils prepare for the contest.

The competition will feature the Junior Category for children aged 6 to 8 years and the Senior Category for those aged 9 to 13 years. The initiative is aimed at promoting spelling proficiency, vocabulary development, confidence and healthy academic competition among children.
Dr. Gift Adene will host this year’s edition, bringing together young learners to demonstrate their spelling abilities and compete for top positions.
The 2026 competition follows the previous edition (2025), which produced outstanding performances in both categories.
In the Junior Category, Maya Nwauzor, aged seven, of Arch Bishop Akinola International School, Afikpo, emerged first. Otu-Ali Godwin, aged eight, of Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic Staff Primary School, took second place, while Azubuike Everjoy Uchechi, aged six, of Kingdom Heritage Nursery & Primary School, Afikpo, finished third.
In the Senior Category, Oko Shulamite Ogeri, aged nine, of Rhema International Nursery and Primary School, emerged winner. Inya Desire Nneoma of Rhema International College finished second, while Uche Possible Michael, aged 11, of Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic Staff School, secured third place.
With the release of this year’s word lists, participants now have the opportunity to prepare ahead of the contest as the organisers look forward to another exciting showcase of young talents.
The public, parents, schools and supporters of children’s education are encouraged to take an interest in the competition and support the participating children.
