DNA samples have been collected from the remains of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, and his son, Liam, as the long-running controversy over the child’s paternity moves into a new phase.
The court-supervised exercise took place on Saturday, October 31, 2026, in Lagos, following an application by Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Aloba, seeking a DNA test to establish Liam’s biological paternity.
The court had approved the application and appointed a welfare officer to supervise the process, fixing October 31 for the collection of samples.
According to reports, samples were first collected from Mohbad’s remains at Mainland General Hospital, popularly known as the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH), in Yaba, Lagos.
The samples were subsequently transported under tight security to the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, where samples were also collected from Liam for forensic examination.
The exercise reportedly took place under strict court supervision and heavy security arrangements amid concerns about possible public disturbances.
Mohbad’s mother, Abosede; his younger brother, Adura; and his widow, Omowunmi, were also present. The process reportedly became emotional during the identification of the late singer’s remains.
The paternity controversy dates back to the period following Mohbad’s death on September 12, 2023. His father, Joseph Aloba, has repeatedly questioned whether Liam is the biological son of the late singer and has called for a DNA test to establish the truth.
With the samples now collected, attention has shifted to the forensic examination and the eventual outcome of the test.
What are your thoughts? Do you believe this DNA test will finally bring an end to the prolonged controversy surrounding Mohbad’s son, or do you think the matter will continue even after the results are released?
