“Christians Should Stop Having Just Two Children; Muslims Are Outnumbering Us” — Pastor Philip Olubakin

Pastor Philip Olubakin has sparked controversy after urging Christians to have more children, warning that limiting family sizes could affect the Christian population in the future.

Speaking at the Shift Conference on Wednesday, the pastor argued that children were important not only to family life but also to the future influence and representation of Christians in society.

He urged Christian couples to reconsider the decision to have only one or two children, suggesting that some other religious communities were growing their populations at a faster rate.

“Stop having two children. I will explain now. Children are weapons. The Bible says because of those children, the man will not be ashamed. He will be able to speak to their enemies at the gate,” he said.

Olubakin further expressed concern that some Christians were prioritising smaller families and alternative lifestyles while, in his view, other religious communities were recording higher birth rates.

“There’s an agenda to outnumber Christians just by childbirth. Christians are dozing,” he stated.

He also referenced baby-name statistics in the United Kingdom, claiming that Muhammad had ranked as the most registered name for newborn boys for three consecutive years.

His comments have raised questions about religion, population growth, family planning and the influence of demographic changes on society.

However, population growth is influenced by several factors, including fertility rates, education, economic conditions and migration, and should not automatically be interpreted as evidence of a coordinated religious agenda.

What is your take on this? Should Christian families be encouraged to have more children for demographic reasons, or should the decision on family size remain entirely a matter of personal choice and family circumstances?
