Anambra Government Demolishes Innoson Motors Head Office for Road Expansion

The Anambra State Government has partially demolished the head office of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) in Nnewi as part of an ongoing road expansion project. The demolition, which occurred on April 17, 2025, affected parts of the building, including the perimeter fence, some offices, the staircase, and the company’s showroom.

According to Mr. Cornel Osigwe, Head of Corporate Communications at Innoson Group, the company was not given prior notice of the demolition. He stated that staff were working when the demolition began, and some were trapped inside the building, requiring rescue efforts.

Anambra State Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ifeanyi Okoma, explained that the demolition was part of a broader initiative to decongest traffic and improve infrastructure in the area. He emphasized that the exercise was not targeted at Innoson specifically, noting that other structures, including religious institutions, were also affected.

The incident has elicited mixed reactions from the public. While some view the demolition as a necessary step for development, others question the lack of adequate notice and the potential impact on local businesses.
