The Anambra State government recently announced the resumption of the monthly sanitation exercise, stating that Soludo’s agenda for the state included a healthy environment.
In a press release, Soludo’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Christian Aburime, stated that, in addition to the monthly exercise, the governor has commissioned 31 contractors to ensure the state’s cleanliness.
“Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, flagged off a Special Sanitation Exercise in the state capital on Saturday,” Aburime said.
“Mr. Governor conducted the exercise with traders at the popular Eke Awka Market roundabout.”
Aburime stated that the exercise drew a large number of participants and that the state’s 21 local governments would continue to educate the public about the importance of maintaining a clean environment.
“The Governor expressed appreciation for the participation of people in the exercise and appealed to them to join hands with the current administration in the state for effective environmental management,” he said.
“In Anambra, 31 contractors have already been hired to help keep the state clean.”
The governor ordered the traders to place their dirt in nylon bags and properly dispose of them in designated areas.
He informed that plans are in the works to restore Ziks Avenue to its former glory.
He urged those who trade on the roads to stop and go to the markets, and he encouraged those who want to be trained as apprentices to learn a trade to approach the Ministry of Youth Development and register.
Chief Jude Agummadu, Chairman of Eke Awka Market, praised the Governor for coming to launch the initiative of renewed market sanitation and pledged to provide him with all necessary support.
