National Assembly

A law prohibiting and criminalizing sexual harassment by instructors and lecturers in tertiary institutions has been approved by the Assembly.

This measure was approved by the Senate in 2020, however it had different provisions than the one that was approved by the House of Representatives.

As he delivered the report during plenary session on Wednesday, June 7, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, claimed that the conference committees of both houses had unified the various perspectives.

The proposed bill aims to make sexual harassment of students in tertiary institutions by teachers illegal.

A bill mandating the inclusion of preventive measures against sexual and gender-based violence in the curriculum of all levels of secondary education in Nigeria was also enacted by the National Assembly on Wednesday.
