On Tuesday, a fire destroyed the injection substation of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) in Idumagbo, Lagos Island, Charmingpro reports

Godwin Idemudia, General Manager, Corporate Communications EKEDC, said in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos that the fire has disrupted electricity supply to customers in the Idumagbo and Ajele areas.

He stated that the incident occurred at 3 p.m. when one of the substation’s 15MVA power transformers caught fire.

“This is to inform our dear customers in Lagos Island that a 15MVA power transformer at our New Idumagbo Injection Substation caught fire at 3pm on Tuesday,” the statement said.

“We’d like to thank the firefighters who responded quickly to our call and stopped the fire from spreading and causing further damage.”

The DisCo’s technical and safety teams are investigating and assessing the situation to determine the cause of the fire, according to Idemudia.

He urged customers affected by the fire to be patient, adding that plans are being made to restore power from another source.
