Chinwetalu Agu, a veteran Nollywood actor, has detailed how he was handled by personnel of the Nigerian Army and DSS agents following his detention.
Soldiers and DSS agents, according to Agu, treated him with decency when he was held.
The 75-year-old actor was detained near Anambra State’s Upper Iweka Bridge in Onitsha.
Soldiers grabbed Agu, who was carrying out humanitarian work, because he was dressed in a Biafra-themed costume.
He was freed, but DSS re-arrested him.
Following his re-arrest, the DSS allegedly flew him to Abuja for additional questioning.
The DSS freed him when the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, intervened.
Speaking on his release, activist lawyer, Mike Ozekhome said DSS released Agu after they searching his phone and found nothing incriminating.
Agu stated that no security personnel “touched” him throughout his arrest.
Agu made the announcement in Enugu on Thursday at a welcome return ceremony organized by AGN members.
During his imprisonment, the seasoned actor said that most of the security guards attempted to get to know him.
He said: “It didn’t start well but God took control. I was only buying bread for the poor. Soldiers came in and started scattering things. They said they are calling me in the office but they did not tell me my offence. Because they did not tell me my offence, I refused to follow them.
“That drama that took place was important so that they will know that Igbo are here. That moment of Upper Iweka till the time we got to the army barracks close to Zik Mausoleum, to 82 Division of the Nigerian Army and to DSS office in Abuja, nobody touched me. They treated me with respect.
“Every officer wanted to be involved in the case so that they can have opportunity to interact with Chinwetalu Agu.”
