“A Lot of Women Need to Live Alone Before Marriage” — Actress Teniola Aladese Sparks Conversation

Nollywood actress Teniola Aladese has stirred conversations online after sharing her candid thoughts on marriage and self-discovery, particularly for women.

According to the actress, many women rush into marriage without first taking time to truly understand themselves. She pointed out that a large number of women move directly from their family homes into marriage, without ever experiencing life on their own.

Teniola explained that this often leaves women unprepared, as they may not fully know what they like, what they can tolerate, or the kind of traits they genuinely want—or cannot stand—in a partner.

She noted that this lack of self-awareness can lead to shock once marriage begins, especially when women are suddenly confronted with habits, behaviors, and mannerisms they never anticipated.

“Living alone helps you discover yourself,” she emphasized, adding that independence allows women to understand their boundaries and clearly define what they will or will not accept in a relationship.

Teniola stressed that this period of self-discovery can help prevent the common post-marriage realization many women face — the feeling of “this is not what I signed up for.”

Her remarks have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some agreeing that independence before marriage builds emotional maturity, while others argue that personal growth can still happen within marriage.
