Lead pastor of Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC), Matthew Ashimolowo, has urged Nigerians to rally behind President Bola Tinubu as the administration battles the country’s deepening security challenges.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Ashimolowo commended the president’s push to strengthen national security but said the effort will stall if citizens remain passive. He stressed that Nigerians must actively support ongoing measures against banditry, terrorism, and other forms of violent crime.
According to him, the country needs a clear turnaround, and that can only happen if security standards improve and national talent is properly harnessed.
“We are tough, strong, fearless, and bold. With leadership determined to make a difference, Nigerians should stand behind the president,” he said.
Ashimolowo went further to propose that all National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members be trained to support security operations — a suggestion he believes could boost manpower and readiness.
On the issue of state police, he maintained a cautious stance, warning that while state policing may have benefits, it also carries the risk of being weaponized by political actors.
“State police may help, but it could also become a personal army used to intimidate others,” he warned.
