Nigerian rapper OdumoduBlvck has called on the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to halt the long-standing practice of posting corps members to states far from their homes, citing rising insecurity and needless loss of young lives.
In a strongly worded post directed at the directorate via the X handle, @officialnyscng, the rapper said the scheme, though founded on good intentions, is no longer realistic considering the country’s current security challenges.
According to him, the original idea behind NYSC was “brilliant,” but “with the state of our country, it’s not sustainable.”
OdumoduBlvck urged the government to prioritise the safety of corps members and the emotional burden placed on parents who constantly fear for their children posted to volatile regions.
“Please pity the parents. Kids are dying. Move with the times,” he wrote.
His appeal adds to the growing public debate on whether NYSC should be restructured, regionalised, or suspended entirely until security conditions improve.
