Bishop David Abioye, a prominent Nigerian clergyman of the Conquerors Global Assembly, has stated during a recent church service that his wife was once diagnosed with HIV during the COVID-19 pandemic and later recovered after prayers.
Speaking while teaching on divine healing during a Sunday live service, Bishop Abioye recounted that medical personnel had reportedly confirmed the diagnosis, but he rejected the result and insisted on further testing.
According to his testimony, he anchored his faith on a biblical scripture while offering prayers, after which another medical check-up was conducted. He told the congregation that the subsequent test showed no trace of the virus.
In his words:
“During COVID-19 they said my wife had HIV, I said no. Not in this body. By the time they checked her… because I got scriptural revelations ‘the prince of this world came to check me and they have found nothing’. So I said go and do the check-up. They checked her up and they couldn’t find anything there.”
He further added:
“Healing is not for gentlemen, you don’t nurse sickness to go, you fight sickness to go.”
While his statement has drawn reactions — particularly regarding the medical claim — there has been no independent verification of the diagnosis, treatment details, or medical documentation surrounding the alleged HIV clearance.
This story continues to generate discussion online, especially around faith healing narratives and the public handling of health-related disclosures.
Bishop David Abioye started his new church, Living Word Conquerors Global Assembly, after retiring from his position as the Vice-President of Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners Chapel). He retired from the church, founded by Bishop David Oyedepo, in October 2024, and his new ministry began holding services in May 2025.
