One Maria Wangare Kamunge, also known as Rish Kamunge, has been arraigned for her involvement in a job scam that targeted Kenyans seeking employment in Mauritius.
The suspect was apprehended following multiple complaints from victims who were promised lucrative jobs in exchange for money.
According to reports, the suspect lured her victims by claiming to have connections with top companies and government agencies. She allegedly demanded payment for processing fees, documentation, and other fictitious requirements, assuring desperate job seekers of immediate employment. However, after receiving the money, she either cut off communication or provided fraudulent appointment letters.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations, DCI, in a statement on Friday, March 28, 2025, said the victims reported paying between Sh200,000 and Sh400,000 for job placements, only to discover that the promised opportunities were nonexistent.
Some individuals even travelled to Mauritius, where they found themselves stranded at the airport without assistance and were ultimately deported back to Kenya.
Investigations have revealed that a total of 43 victims sent Sh12.9 million to the suspect.
Rish Kamunge, the Director of Trustpine Travel Agency, appeared in court for custodial orders and was subsequently remanded at Capital Hill Police Station.
The case is scheduled for mention today, March 28, 2025.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations urges anyone who might have fallen victim to this job scam to come forward and report the matter at the Central Police Station in Nairobi
