Wizkid has won the title of ‘Best African Act’ at the 2021 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA).
Viacom International Media Networks presents the MTV EMA to honor artists and music in pop culture.
Wizkid was nominated alongside Tems, Amaarae, Diamond Platnumz, and Focalistic for the award category.
During the award ceremony on Sunday, the singer defeated his competitors to earn the title.
Wizkid’s fourth studio album, ‘Made In Lagos’ (MIL), was released in October 2020.
He has gone on tour for the project, selling out shows all over the world.
MIL enlisted big names in music like Damian Marley, Skepta, H.E.R, Ella Mai, Burna Boy, Tems, and Terri.
Wizkid released a video for ‘Essence,’ a tune from MIL, in 2021, and followed it up with a Justin Beiber remix.
‘Essence’ rocketed into the Billboard Hot 100 chart, hitting the top ten.
Wizkid also published an 18-track deluxe edition of the record, which received widespread acclaim.
Wizkid appeared on Beyoncé’s ‘Brown Skin Girl,’ a tune from the soundtrack of ‘The Lion King: The Gift,’ in mid-2019.
As admirers applauded the artist on social media, he received big international prizes.
