On Sunday, July 17, Bamidele’s fiance, Ifeoluwa, allegedly set fire to his house in Koka village, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, near the state capital, after discovering that he had cheated on her and had a child outside wedlock.

She was also said to have left a message on her WhatsApp status, indicating that her actions were planned in advance.

Bolu was rushed to the hospital and died on July 18th.

A neighbour, Gabriel Adejare, described how they initially rescued the victim, saying that while returning from work around 7:30 p.m., he encountered Ifeoluwa walking barefooted in the community.

“As I approached my house, I noticed smoke coming from the house where Ife was staying.” I stood there for a while, then realized the house was on fire.

I dashed to the scene, where I encountered Ife’s younger sister, along with some elders, in front of the gate. She then told me that her older sister and her boyfriend were fighting.

The house had already been set on fire while she was out calling elders for assistance.

Ife, her sister, had stormed out of the house, locking all the doors behind her, while the fiance was still in his bedroom. I tried to put out the fire right away, but I couldn’t. I requested additional assistance from the community, and we worked together to put out the fire.

We were throwing sand and water on the fire and breaking in through the window to save Bamidele.

We had to break four windows and commit four burglaries before we could get in. After about 40 minutes, we were able to rescue Bamidele from the fire.

We discovered him next to a burnt bed and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was referred to Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, and later to Ibadan for treatment,” he explained.
