Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has denied reports that he demanded N50 billion per month from former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode during his administration, Charmingpro reportsÂ
According to the reports, Ambode, who became governor of the state in 2015, served only four years before his attempt to secure a second term failed after he lost the APC primary election in 2018.
According to a recent online report, his refusal to remit the said amount to Asiwaju was a factor in his failure to secure the APC governorship ticket in 2018.
Bayo Onanuga, Director, Media and Communications for Tinubu Campaign Organisation (TCO), debunked the report on Tuesday, saying Tinubu could not have made such a demand.
“The falsity of the statement is demonstrated by the fact that Lagos did not begin to generate N50 billion in revenue until after Ambode left office.”
“Tinubu could not have demanded a billion monthly payment from Ambode when the state government did not make such a payment in a month during Ambode’s tenure,” the statement continued.
According to the statement, the site from which some of the fake news originated has been identified as World of News, with the URL world news.
“A content analysis of the site clearly showed that it is a Biafra news platform,” says Onanuga.
