The killing of UK lawmaker, Sir David Amess was terrorism - Police say

The death of Conservative MP Sir David Amess on Friday, October 15, is being investigated as a terrorist act, according to UK authorities.

On Friday, Sir David was stabbed numerous times at his constituency surgery in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, and a 25-year-old British man was detained on suspicion of murder.

The Metropolitan Police stated the homicide has a possible relation to Islamist extremism in a statement issued Saturday morning, October 16.

According to reports, the lawmaker looks to be of Somali descent.

The Met stated that investigators are conducting searches at two homes in the London region and are not looking for anybody else in connection with the killing.

The police said they think the man, who is being held in Essex, acted alone, although investigations into the event are still underway.
