Mbaka had previously described Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi as a “stingy man,” claiming that unless God ceases to exist, Obi would never smell the presidency.

He believed that having an old man as president was preferable to having a’stingy young man.’

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Bishop of Enugu, Rev Ernest Obodo, said Mbaka’s inflammatory political remarks were divisive and violated Canon 220 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law, which prohibits anyone from illegitimately harming a person’s good name.

He also stated that Mbaka’s views on the matter are entirely personal to him and do not represent the Catholic Diocese of Enugu’s position.

As a result, the Bishop warned Mbaka not to make any further provocative prophecies or utterances that could inflame the polity.

“We assure God’s people and the general public that the Catholic Diocese of Enugu is following the proper canonical procedure.”

“Finally, we urge all God’s People to continue to pray for peaceful elections and to fulfill their civic responsibilities by obtaining their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) and voting in order to elect the right candidates.” “Please intercede for us, Our Lady, Queen of Nigeria,” he added.
