The senior pastor of Fountain of Life Church Pastor Taiwo Odukoya has revealed that he and his late wife Nomthi visited several countries in search of the best healthcare during her two-year battle with cancer.
Odukoya made the statement on Sunday, just days after his South African wife passed away.
“We went to nations and received the finest of therapy,” he claimed, explaining why Nomthi was brought back to Nigeria weeks ago after seeking treatment overseas. They told us that in the United States, less than 1% of Americans go to the extent that we are treating this case. We were able to secure the best.
“But then, it got to a stage that they said we are out of options and they meant it. But each time they say that I reply that except for a miracle. At that point, I realised that I just have to continue to believe God.
“So, we boarded the plane and we came back. She came with me two weeks ago. We had the best paramedics from the U.S. and they followed us home. Reddington (Hospital) created virtual ICU in our home; they gave us four to five doctors, supported by their nurses.”
Odukoya said he was in church to worship God and also to explain her death to the congregation.
“I am here because the church deserves an explanation. The first reason is that I came to glorify the name of the Lord. We are here to worship and let the devil know that he came too late,” he said.
The cleric went on to say that his wife began therapy in January 2020 and that, despite Nomthi’s death, Satan could not be regarded to have triumphed.
“Some might say ‘Pastor Taiwo, you didn’t see it coming and you didn’t fight it.’ Who told you? We did the best we could do; it wasn’t the want of prayers. When it got to a stage, I involved the apostolic fathers. Honestly, the ones I could reach, they went beyond the call of duty,” he said.
Odukoya revealed that preachers like Bishop Mike Okonkwo, Pastor Enoch Adeboye and his wife Foluke were always checking on them.
Nomthi will be buried on November 30.
