Obinna Obeta, a London-based medical doctor, has been charged with conspiring with Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, to facilitate the travel of Ukpo Nwamini David for kidney harvesting Charmingpro reports
The couple was arrested on June 21 by the Metropolitan Police for allegedly planning to have David’s kidney removed for their daughter Sonia, who was suffering from kidney failure.
On 5 May 2022, David, who previously claimed to be 15 years old, presented himself at Staines Police Station, alleging that he was transported to the UK by Ekweremadus to have his kidney removed.
Obeta, on the other hand, was accused of conspiring with the former Deputy Senate President to arrange or facilitate David’s travel in order to exploit him through organ harvesting.
According to reports, the 50-year-old medical doctor from Hillbeck Close in Southwark, southeast London, appeared at Bexley Magistrates’ Court on 13 July.
David, who had previously claimed to be a minor, has now admitted to a UK court that he is 21 years old. Ekweremad and his wife are still detained.
