60-Years-Old Dapo Abiodun the Ogun State Governor has ordered to demolish a secret bridge which was constructed by unknown persons in a forest located in Ogun state, Nigeria.
The still on constructed bridge, was reported to be built across Oluwo river to link Omo Forest in Area J4 to a village in Ondo State.
Mr Dapo Abiodun, Ogun Governor referred to the ongoing construction of the bridge as “illegal” as the bridge is suspected to have been constraints by illegal loggers, who have been engaging in illegal felling of trees, Ogun Government ordered for it to be demolished.
Hon. Tunji Akinosi, The State Commissioner for Forestry on Saturday 9th January, 2021 led a monitoring team to Laagan village where he saw the 50-metre long bridge.
Also in a statement made by Soji Solarin, the Information Officer of the Ministry, stated that the Commissioner ordered that the demolition of the almost completed bridge, within two weeks.
It was also stated by Akinosi that those constructing the bridge were doing so to easily transport stolen state’s forest resources by illegal loggers and have them taken away to neighbouring states, also adding that some unscrupulous elements are behind the illegal bridge, saying it must have gulped about N15 million to N20 million.
Akinosi also added in his statement saying “Armed soldiers would remain part of the frequent monitoring exercises in order to prevent banditry which is becoming prevalent nationwide,”.
