LISTEN: Rema solidifies his music genre with ‘Rave and Roses’ album

‘Rave and Roses’ album

Rema, a talented musician, has released his long-awaited debut album titled ‘Rave and Roses,’ three years after breaking into the Nigerian music industry with the energetic self-titled ‘Rema’ EP.

The ‘Rema’ EP aided in the development and acceptance of Extended Playlists (EP) in the Nigerian music industry, with Rema himself serving as a leader of the new generation of musicians, leveraging the internet and social media as major tools for music promotion and career growth.

Rema, who was signed to Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records, positioned himself as the future of Afrobeats and later defined his music genre as Afro-Rave, infusing his unique singing style alongside other elements of African music and instruments to create Afro-Rave.

The then 19-year-old newbie took the world on a journey into his creativity, churning out hits upon hits just as he was born to do. Rema, real name Divine Ikubor, made himself a household name sooner than expected by a good deal of music key players and extended his tentacles into the African and International scenes through strategic campaigns and collaborations with other musicians across the globe.

With three extended plays, over 20 hit singles like ‘Dumebi’, ‘Spiderman’, ‘Woman’, ‘Bounce’, ‘Soundgasm’, ‘Calm Down’, ‘Bad Commando’, ‘Rewind’, just to mention a few, and multiple award recognitions, Rema has now dropped his first studio album, ‘Rave and Roses’, at age 21.

‘Rave and Roses’ is a 16-song collection featuring 6lack, Chris Brown, AJ Tracey, and Yseult. He referred to the album as a “piece of his soul” to his fans all over the world.

While speaking at the exclusive album listening party for his very first studio album on Sunday, March 13, 2022, the young man with an enviable musical talent said the album is a breath of fresh air for afrobeats.

“I see this project as a fresh air when it comes to afrobeats,” Rema stated, adding that “I see it as a gesture to seal my sound for good.”

Rema released the album in the early hours of Friday, March 25, 2022.
