Journalist allegedly battered by her husband in Adamawa – See details

The Adamawa State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has strongly condemned the assault and battering of one of its female members, Nafeesa Vandi, Charmingpro reports

On Wednesday, August 17, 2022, the mother of three and News Department employee of Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation Yola was allegedly beaten to stupor by her husband, Mallam Ibrahim Aliyu, a sacked PHCN employee.

In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by its chairman, Ishaka Donald Dedan, the union called the beating of a professional female practicing journalist unacceptable, wicked, and barbaric.

“Though the police have already swung into action in investigating and arresting the perpetrator of the domestic violence,” the statement said, “the NUJ calls for a more expeditious action towards the immediate arrest and prosecution of the said Mallam Ibrahim Aliyu in accordance with the law and constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

“The union also calls on national and international organizations such as FIDA, UNFPA, UNICEF, and Civil Society Organizations that are advocating for an end to violence against women to intervene in order for justice to prevail.”
