Funke Akindele’s new film ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ has become the first Nollywood film to gross more than N1 billion at the box office.

In the three weeks following its publication, ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ grossed N1 billion.

Kene Okwuosa, CEO of FilmHouse Group, hailed the historic achievement in a statement on Thursday, noting that the world is seeing a golden period for Nigerian cinema.

“Akindele’s film not only captivated audiences, but it also demonstrated Nigerian cinema’s resilience in the face of global streaming giants like Netflix and Prime Video,” the statement continued.

‘A Tribe Called Judah’ became the first Nollywood film to gross more than N113 million in its debut weekend when it was released in cinemas on December 15, 2023.

According to reports, Funke’s ‘Battle on Buka Street’ earned N650 million at the box office in 2022.
