The federal government has announced Friday, April 15th, and Monday, April 18th, as public holidays in honor of Easter.

Dr. Shuaib Belgore, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Interior, issued a statement announcing this on Tuesday, which was made public by the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.

Christian leaders were asked by the Minister in a recent statement to follow Jesus’ example of selfless service, unity, forgiveness, kindness, love, and patience during his earthly ministry.

These words were spoken as he pleaded for their prayers for a peaceful resolution to the country’s security issues.

The statement read in part, ““Security is everybody’s business. I therefore urge Nigerians and foreigners resident in our country to display a high sense of citizenship and public spiritedness at this critical time in the history of our country, by supporting the efforts of all security agencies in bringing peace and security of lives and property of the citizenry.

“While wishing Christians at home and in the Diaspora a happy and peaceful Easter celebration, we also call on Nigerians to join hands with the President Muhammadu Buhari and his administration in its determination to bring sustainable development and usher in prosperity for all. “
