The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved Air Nigeria’s proposed new national carrier’s launch date of April 2022.

Hadi Sirika, the Minister of Aviation, revealed this while briefing reporters on the outcome of the council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday at the presidential villa in Abuja.

He recalled that this was the sixth time the issue had been brought to the cabinet’s attention.

According to him, the federal government will hold only 5% of the airline’s stock, while other Nigerians will own 46%.

He disclosed that strategic partners including foreign airlines will be identified to take up the remaining 49 per cent equity.

The minister also said the national carrier, when operational, will create about 70,000 jobs for Nigerians.
