Tafa Balogun, a former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has died, Charmingpro reports

On Thursday, family members confirmed his death to the Daily Trust.

However, specifics about his death were withheld.

Balogun was born in Ila-Orangun, Osun State, on August 8, 1947, and was appointed the 21st Inspector-General of Police on March 6, 2002.

Balogun was arraigned in the Federal High Court in Abuja on April 4, 2005, for stealing and laundering over $100 million from the Police treasury during his three years as Inspector General of Police.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged him with 70 offenses.

However, he agreed to a plea bargain with the court in exchange for the return of much of the property and money. He received a six-month prison sentence.
