The Actors Guild of Nigeria has reacted to the arrest of veteran actor, Chiwetalu Agu.
Recall that the veteran Nollywood actor was arrested by Nigerian Army troops for wearing Biafra clothing.
Charmingpro Magazine learned that when he was detained by government forces on Upper Iweka Road in Onitsha, he was giving meals to the less fortunate while dressed in Biafran regalia.
Agu was accosted by two soldiers who wrestled him to the ground before hauling him away.
According to Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Army Public Relations, the legendary actor was seized for inciting members of the public and soliciting support for the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In response, Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, denounced Agu’s donning of Biafra regalia in an interview with newsmen.
He pointed out that, given the country’s high risk of insecurity and the state’s current heat, Agu should have avoided wearing such apparel.
He, however, said that the Guild is doing everything possible to ensure Chiwetalu Agu is released.
“I don’t know why he put on Biafra regalia. The State is hot and he knows this.
“We are in talk with the military officials to ensure he his released. We will do our best.
“I heard they have taken him to 82 Division of the Nigeria Military base,” he said.
