Popular Nigerian actress and reality TV star, Beverly Osu, has taken to social media to react to the dramatic fashion and extravaganza glam at the African Movies Viewers’ choice awards (AMVCA).

According to her, the awards has lost its touch, as it has now become a venue for clout, nudity and corset dresses.

She said, what was once a celebration of African cinematic excellence now looks like a masquerade parade. According to her, It’s no longer about the craft. It’s about CLOUT. It has lost the plot.

She wrote on twitter:

While Cannes is setting boundaries by banning nudity and massive trains on the red carpet to refocus attention on actors and filmmakers , AMVCA is spiraling in the opposite direction . What was once a celebration of African cinematic excellence now looks like a masquerade parade.

It’s no longer about the craft. It’s about CLOUT. Social media numbers are being prioritized over performances. The Red carpet feels louder than the awards. The heart of the industry , the storytellers , the technicians, the performers are being drowned by corsets and algorithms.

AMVCA has lost the plot . It’s time to bring the focus back to the work , not just the wow . This is one of the few times filmmakers unwind , celebrate and reconnect.. Filmaking in general isn’t a joke.

Reacting to her post, reality star, Roby Ekpo took a swipe at PapayaEx. He wrote; “I keep asking this question, how do people get invitations to the AMVCAs? Cos, how can someone that doesn’t have any talent dress up like a banana? “

One IamprinceKC wrote, “I said this before! It’s a movie award night not a fashion Gala event.. when they started inviting influencers and co,they turned the prestigious award to a joke.”

Official Ucheagu wrote, “Please ooh this is our MET gala, let everyone bring their A game, what other event in Nigeria brings out celebrities and fashion designers in their number if not AMVCA. Beverly Nne Biko rest”

Duch Sucre wrote, “Leave it for us. It’s an opportunity for our designers to show case their craftsmanship. Our designers are getting the recognition they need now cos of events like this. This is our own Oscar’s or met gala”

Miriam Ijeomah wrote, “She is absolutely right. This year there was no much post from bloggers about winners at the award. The whole attention were on the red carpet.”

One call me a g wrote “She didn’t lie coz if they ask about the awards received and who received them, a lot of people will be clueless but ask about the outfit someone wore abd they’ll give you a full detail of yhe outfit, designer, stylist, wig and so on…..”

Another user, Itune01 wrote, “No be lie, till now I don’t even know most of the awardees but I can remember what Queen, Osas, Desmond, Mercy, Liquor and many more wore.”
