The charge was contained in a five-point resolution issued following an emergency congress meeting held by the union to review the ongoing strike action and other local issues, including the imposition of the state government’s ‘No work-No pay’ strategy.

Dr. Mohammed Saje Jajere, chairperson of the YSU-ASUU branch, stated that after extensive deliberation, the congress has unanimously reiterated its position to continue the national strike, despite the no-work-no-pay strategy being implemented without notice.

“As the struggle continues, the Congress has commended its members for their dedication and tenacity in the patriotic struggle for the survival of the country’s university system.”

“The Congress has called on its members not to succumb to any kind of threat so that division and distraction among members are avoided,” he said.

To alleviate the hardship of the salary freeze, the Chairperson stated that a coping strategy has been implemented through the ASUU-YSU Multipurpose Cooperative Society, and urged members to contact the Cooperative’s EXCO for more information on how to access various services.

“A united people can never be defeated,” Dr. Jajere emphasized.

The varsity’s administration has announced the resumption of academic activities on June 27th, 2022, after the Directorate of Academic Planning of the institution released an adjusted academic calendar for the 2020/2021 academic session and urged students to take note for compliance.

According to reports, some university academic staff at the managerial level began lectures on the specified date and have vowed to continue in accordance with the adjusted calendar.
