Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has ordered a full-scale investigation into allegations of medical negligence surrounding the death of Nkanu Nnamdi, the 21-month-old son of celebrated Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
In a statement released on Sunday, the state government disclosed that the governor has directed the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) to immediately launch a comprehensive, independent and transparent probe into the incident.
According to the statement, the investigation will examine both the immediate and underlying circumstances that led to the child’s death. The probe is also expected to determine whether there were any breaches of professional conduct, established medical protocols, or standards of care by the health facilities or personnel involved.
The Lagos State Government assured the public that the inquiry would be thorough and objective, stressing that accountability and patient safety remain a top priority of the administration.
The development comes amid widespread public concern and calls for justice following detailed allegations shared by Chimamanda Adichie, who accused an anesthesiologist of gross negligence during a medical procedure involving her son.
The government pledged that the outcome of the investigation would be made public and that appropriate actions would be taken based on the findings.
