Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, on Sunday, January 11, 2026, made their first public appearance since the Rivers State House of Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings against them.
The governor and his deputy were sighted at a church service held at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt, to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day. Their appearance ended days of speculation over their whereabouts following the impeachment notice issued by lawmakers on Thursday, January 8.
Sources had earlier indicated that both officials were outside the country on official engagements at the time the impeachment process was commenced. Their return and public outing come amid heightened political tension in the state.
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day service was organised to honour Nigerian servicemen and women who lost their lives in the line of duty while defending the country’s unity and sovereignty. The event also featured prayers for the repose of fallen heroes and for the safety and strength of personnel currently serving across the nation.
The presence of Governor Fubara and his deputy at the solemn ceremony drew attention, as it marked their first visible engagement since the unfolding political developments, with observers closely watching how the impeachment process will progress in the coming days.
