Family Cries Out as Corpse Allegedly Goes Missing from Mortuary in Ekpoma, Appeals to Gov. Okpebholo

A family in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, has raised alarm over the alleged disappearance of the corpse of their relative from a hospital mortuary, calling on the state government to intervene.

According to the family, the deceased was deposited at the mortuary of a hospital in Ekpoma pending burial arrangements. However, when relatives reportedly returned to make final preparations, they were shocked to discover that the body could no longer be found.

The development has left the family distressed and confused, as they claim no prior notice, explanation, or documentation was provided by the mortuary management regarding the whereabouts of the corpse. They allege that repeated inquiries to hospital officials have so far yielded no clear answers.

Describing the incident as traumatic and unacceptable, the family appealed directly to Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, and relevant authorities to urgently investigate the matter and ensure accountability.

They also called on the Edo State Ministry of Health and security agencies to step in, stressing that the disappearance of a corpse from a licensed mortuary raises serious concerns about standards, record-keeping, and oversight in health facilities.
