The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has applauded one of its volunteers in Kano, Mr. Nura Abdullahi, for returning more than ₦20 million accidentally forgotten by a co-passenger in a commercial tricycle , an act the corps described as a remarkable display of integrity and discipline.
The commendation was delivered on Friday in Kano by ACG Amos Abiodun-Taiwo, Commander of NSCDC Zone 12, during the presentation of a formal letter of recognition to Abdullahi.
According to the commander, Abdullahi discovered the money after a passenger identified as Alhaji Mustafa from Katsina alighted and mistakenly left the bag behind. Abdullahi reportedly used the last-dialed number on Mustafa’s phone, after lending him the device earlier, to trace and contact him.
Abiodun-Taiwo said the command verified the incident and briefed the Commandant-General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, who directed that Abdullahi be honoured as an example of honesty within the corps.
He stressed that Abdullahi, a volunteer who reportedly did not have up to ₦20,000 in his own account, demonstrated rare character at a time when economic pressure tempts many in the opposite direction.
“This young man is a good ambassador of his family, the NSCDC, and the nation. If this were something negative, social media would have been flooded with it. Positive acts like this deserve equal attention,” he said.
The commander called on Nigerians to emulate Abdullahi’s integrity, noting that moral values remain essential even in difficult times. He added that the volunteer would be “handsomely rewarded” for his exemplary behaviour.
