The family of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has renewed its demand for a transparent and independent investigation into his mysterious d₊ath, while directing his widow, Wunmi, to stop using the family name “Aloba” until a court-ordered DNA test confirms her son’s paternity.
In a statement signed by family head Omolayo Aloba and Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, the family reaffirmed its call for justice, insisting that only a “credible and comprehensive investigation” will uncover the truth behind the 27-year-old singer’s passing.
The statement further announced the appointment of Oladayo Ogungbe, Esq. as the family’s sole legal representative for estate and DNA-related matters. It also confirmed that Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN, would continue to represent the family before investigative authorities.
Three administrators — Ajewole Aloba, Rasaq Famuyiwa, and Alonge Aloba — were named to oversee the late singer’s estate. One slot was reserved for Wunmi, pending confirmation that her son, Liam, is indeed Mohbad’s biological child.
The family instructed Wunmi to cease using the Aloba surname “in both public and private records” until paternity is verified, claiming that “no statutory or customary marriage was contracted between the late Mohbad and Wunmi Adebanjo.”
However, Wunmi’s lawyer, Kabir Akingbolu, dismissed the directive as “illegal, baseless, and sentimental.”
“Nobody can stop her from bearing Aloba. That is the name given to her by her husband, and under the law, she has every right to keep it,” Akingbolu said.
He also accused the Aloba family of delaying the DNA process, stressing that his client remains open to testing.
“We are ready for the DNA any time, any day. The child is not a bastard, and my client has nothing to fear,” he added.
Mohbad, a former signee of Marlian Music, d!ed on September 12, 2023, in controversial circumstances. Over a year later, he has yet to be b¥ried, as investigations into his d₊ath continue under a 13-man panel set up by the Lagos State Police Command.
