A Kano State High Court on Miller Road has ordered the remand of a man identified as Idris Kurma, who is facing allegations of killing his wife, Aisha Idris, following a disagreement over the preparation of kuli-kuli, a popular groundnut snack in Northern Nigeria.
Kurma was arraigned on a one-count charge of culpable homicide, in violation of Section 221 of the Penal Code. The alleged incident occurred in Goda village, Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.
During the court proceedings, the prosecution counsel, Barrister Lamido Abba Soron Dinki, presented the charge to the defendant, who entered a not-guilty plea. Soron Dinki then requested an adjournment to allow time for the presentation of prosecution witnesses.
Presiding judge, Justice Musa Dahiru, granted the request and ordered Kurma to be remanded in custody pending trial. The matter was adjourned to December 12, 2025, for continuation of hearing.
Kuli-kuli, a crunchy snack made from seasoned, deep-fried groundnut paste, remains a beloved treat across Northern Nigeria, though this shocking case has sparked concern about rising domestic conflicts escalating into violence.
