Nigerians have taken to social media to drag fast rising female rapper, Candy Bleaks, for sending five thousand Naira (₦5000) only, to a fan. An amount that’s equivalent to 3 US dollar, using the current exchange rate.
This comes after the fan praised her music online.
The fan had earlier taken to social media to write about her music. The fan wrote:
“Candy Bleakz, queen of Nigerian rap! We’ve missed your fire bars and empowering lyrics! Can’t wait for your new release! May God bless your creativity and inspire your music. You’re a trailblazer, and your fans are eagerly awaiting your next move! Keep rapping, keep reigning!“
Candy then thanked the fan, and revealed that she was passing through tough times and the post made her day.
She then offered to send a small gift for dinner, asking the fan to share their account details, saying: “Thanks a lot for this, been having a really rough one today. Words like this keep me going amidst the storms, and I know say e go clear one day Big love! ❤️ Drop Aza make i do you small thing for dinner”
After the fan shared their bank information, Candy Bleakz posted a screenshot showing she had sent ₦5,000.
This then caused uproar among social media users, as many opined that as an established should have sent something more.
The backlash sparked debates about the expectations fans have of public figures and how celebrities show appreciation.
They even compared her to other bigger celebrities like Don Jazzy, who gift their fans in millions of naira online.
