The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has banned used items markets, popularly known as ‘Panteka’, in the FCT for two weeks.

Wike said the ban on Panteka markets in the FCT takes effect from Tuesday, 14th January 2025.

He announced the ban during the FCT Security Council meeting.

This was disclosed in a post on X by his media aide, Lere Olayinka.

The minister also placed a ban on the activities of scavengers within Abuja.

He said scavenging has been restricted only to dump sites.

According to the statement: “Activities of all Pantekas (sellers of used items) have been banned for two weeks effective from tomorrow.

“Scavenging is banned within the Abuja city centre and its environs. Scavengers are now restricted to dump sites alone.

“All those arrested for vandalizing public infrastructure will be charged to court for economic sabotage and even attempted murder.”
