Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, asserts that he is capable of becoming president of Nigeria, but he stresses that any aspirations in the future must be in line with the wishes of Nigerians and the PDP’s guidelines.
He said during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today;
“I don’t have any doubt that I have the capacity to occupy the highest office in this land and I have what it takes,”
“But is that what Nigerians are asking for right now? Is it what my party will support? We don’t know. There’s still a long time to go.”
Makinde stressed that internal reconciliation must be prioritized in the PDP before considering mergers or coalitions. “We must fix our party first. We must have a platform to even aspire to anything,” he said, adding, “If my political journey ends here, I’m also happy.”

Asked directly whether he plans to run in 2027, he replied, “Nobody will set an agenda for me. I will set an agenda for myself.” He said his current focus is on delivering good governance in Oyo State and that he will only declare any national ambition “at the appropriate time.”
