The Senate has adopted the Conference Committee report on the Nigeria Peace Corps (Establishment) Bill, 2023.

It followed the presentation on Tuesday by the Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Interior, Seriake Dickson.

The lawmaker said both the Senate and the House of Representatives committees met and adopted the House’s version.

The joint committee recommended the green chamber’s version, which retained the “Peace Corps of Nigeria” appellation.

The highlight of the adopted report was on clause 38 (1) of the Senate version, which was in conflict with the House version under the same clause.

The Senate’s version seeks dissolution of the existing Peace Corps of Nigeria and National Unity and Peace Corps.

The House recommended the dissolution of the Peace Corps of Nigeria to be transformed into the Nigerian Peace Corps, when assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The report, however, agreed that for a bill to become an act of parliament in Nigeria, it must pass through both National Assembly chambers.
