A retired comrade has staged a protest at the Supreme Court of Nigeria following allegations that some Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) were locked out of a ceremony to reserve seats for politicians attending the event.
The incident reportedly occurred during activities marking the commencement of the 2026/2027 legal year and the conferment ceremony for newly appointed Senior Advocates of Nigeria.
In a video circulating on social media, the retired comrade was seen expressing displeasure as some senior lawyers stood on a staircase leading to the venue of the ceremony.
The protester alleged that the lawyers were prevented from accessing the venue because seats had been reserved for politicians expected to attend the occasion.
The allegation has raised questions about the treatment of senior members of the legal profession at an event organised to mark the beginning of a new legal year and recognise outstanding contributions to the Nigerian Bar.
However, the circumstances surrounding the reported incident, including the reasons some lawyers were unable to enter the venue and whether seating arrangements were specifically made for politicians, have not been independently established from the account provided.
The incident has also drawn attention to concerns about protocol, access and the treatment of legal practitioners during official judicial events.
