Suspected militants who are loyal to a group called Biafra Nations League, BNL, have reportedly shot dead two escorts of an oil vessel near Cameroonian waters.

The incident according to eyewitnesses, happened at about 4am in the Idabato subdivision of the Bakassi Peninsula, an area controlled by Cameroon.

Witnesses said the militants had also attacked the vessel which was not on the move and whose origin was not ascertained.

”They attempted to set the vessel ablaze”, another source revealed.

He said the militants escaped before the arrival of Cameroonian forces.

In a statement, the leader of BnL, Princewill Richards has declared a stop to vessels taking oil in the eastern end of the Gulf of Guinea.

He warned that the oil vessels are endangering their lives
