Police detain, name officers involved in Kogi alleged bribery incident

Four police officers were arrested and jailed after being recorded taking bribes and assaulting passengers, according to the Kogi State Police Command.

The police officers in the video were assigned to Adogo Division and were on patrol along the Adogo-Okene highway on the day of the incident, according to a statement published on Sunday by the Command’s spokesperson, William Aya.

The officers reportedly extorted N25,000 from a commuter, while another was physically assaulted by one of the men in uniform.

“The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, CP Idrisu Dauda Dabban, psc (+), fdc, while condemning the incident, noted that the Police officers have been identified and detained at the State Criminal Investigations Department,” the statement read.

The officers, according to the statement, are ASP Isah Barnabas, Inspector Ifediegwu Godwin, Sgt Emmanuel Ochima and CPL Umameh Mathias who physically assaulted one of the commuters.

Mr. Aya added that ASP Isah has been given an official investigation, while the three other subordinate officers are facing an orderly room trial, which is a police internal disciplinary procedure.

The police commissioner went on to say that the Command is doing everything possible to contact the victims. He instructed the victims to contact the Command at 08107899269.

The development followed an order for investigation from the inspector general of police Usman Baba.
