While arraigning the suspects on Monday, Wasiu Abiodun, the State Police Public Relations Officer, explained that the deceased was killed by his abductors as a cover-up after identifying them as his neighbors.

Yasir Salisu was reported missing on July 29 by the PPRO.

He went on to say that during interrogation, Usman Sabiu confessed to conspiring with Nafiu Umar to kidnap the missing person and take him to Nafiu’s house, with the intention of collecting N100,000 from the victim’s father as ransom.

According to a police spokesman, the suspects claimed that the victim was strangled to death when he could not produce his father’s contact number to demand ransom, and they had also identified them.

“During the investigation, the suspects led police operatives to a river bank in Hayin-Nasarawa where the deceased was buried in a shallow grave; however, the corpse was exhumed and deposited at Umar Yar’adua Hospital morgue for autopsy,” the PPRO explained.

He advised parents and guardians to keep an eye on their children’s movements within the community in order to protect them from the unknown.
