They expressed their support for Mbaka, the church’s Spiritual Director, on Sunday.

The supporters also demanded the immediate removal of Enugu Bishop Callistus Onaga.

They chanted solidarity songs and repeated the chorus “Onaga Must Go” with leaves and placards.

Bishop Onaga announced a ban on activities at Enugu’s Adoration Ground on Friday.

He stated that some of Mbaka’s teachings and utterances “are not consistent with the teachings and faith of the Catholic Church.”

Mbaka enraged his superiors after making disparaging remarks about Obi, a presidential candidate in 2023.

The Labour Party’s candidate is the former two-term governor of Anambra State (LP).

Obi, according to the cleric, cannot be elected President of Nigeria because he is “stingy.”

Following the uproar, Mbaka apologized to Obi and the Catholic Church in a lengthy open letter.
