The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E. A. Adeboye, has renamed the RCCG Apapa Family to The Favoured Family.
Adeboye renamed the parish on Sunday during his second visit to Trinity Towers, the home of the RCCG City of David parish, which serves as the headquarters of the Apapa Family.
Adeboye, who hit the venue alongside his wife, Pastor (Mrs.) Folu Adeboye, revealed that he received a divine instruction to rename the well-known family within the RCCG structure.
Preaching from 2 Kings 2:19-24, Pastor Adeboye explained that the Apapa Family needed a fresh outpouring of grace, symbolized by the reintroduction of salt and a new cruse.
He emphasized that the salt represented God bringing back taste and seasoning, removing bitterness, keeping away demonic influences, and ushering in rapid progress.
The new cruse, he said, signified a fresh start, a restoration of lost glory, and a renewed determination to rekindle the fire of spiritual fervency.
“If anyone had once been hot and had grown lukewarm, they would now burn brightly again,” Pastor Adeboye stated.
The RCCG Apapa Family has a rich history that dates back to 1991 when it started with just one location at Roxy Cinema, Apapa, with about 50 members under Pastor Tony Rapu.
Within five years, it had grown to over 45 parishes within and outside Nigeria, with a workforce of over 500 people.
The family’s vision is to make heaven, take as many people along, raise leaders, and build a people who manifest the Spirit of excellence, faithfulness, character, and integrity.
They aim to evangelize, establish God’s government, and demonstrate the relevance of Christianity through contemporary and creative expressions of their faith.
Over the years, the RCCG Apapa Family has undergone significant transformations, with various pastors contributing to its growth.
Pastor Eskor Mfon took over from Pastor Tony Rapu and continued the expansion and growth of the Apapa Family Churches. After Pastor Eskor Mfon’s passing, Pastor Idowu Iluyomade was appointed the new Head of the Apapa Family.
On September 1, 2024, Pastor Kayode Pitan took over from Iluyomade as the Head of the Apapa Family.
