President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on his victory in the Osun State governorship election, Charmingpro reports.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared a former lawmaker the winner of the recently concluded election on Sunday.

Adeleke was declared the winner of the governorship election after receiving 403,371 votes as opposed to his main opponent, Gboyega Oyetola, who received 375,027 votes.

In a statement on his verified Facebook page, President Buhari expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the exercise, saying, “this is what democracy is all about: respect for the will of the people.”

The president also promised that his administration would continue to ensure that the country’s elections were credible.

“I congratulate Senator Ademola Adeleke, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, on his victory in the Osun gubernatorial election,” he wrote. The people of Osun have spoken through the ballot box.

“The successful conduct of #OsunDecides2022 demonstrates the maturity and commitment of all stakeholders to strengthening the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.”

“I remain steadfast in my commitment to leaving a legacy of credible elections in Nigeria.”
