The Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Osborn Nweze Umahi, has directed the 11 wards in the council area to identify and submit five priority projects each for consideration in his administration’s development plan.
Umahi made the announcement on Friday, September 11, during a stakeholders’ meeting with representatives of the communities.
According to the council chairman, each ward is expected to work through its councillor to identify five projects that residents consider most important to their communities. The proposals will subsequently be reviewed and considered as part of the administration’s action plan.
The initiative is aimed at giving residents a direct role in determining the projects and interventions they want prioritised in their respective wards.
Speaking at the meeting, Umahi expressed satisfaction with the response to his administration, saying, “People are very happy and I have introduced a new style of leadership.”
The chairman’s request places emphasis on community participation in local government development, allowing each ward to identify its most pressing needs rather than having projects determined solely at the council level.
Residents of Ohaozara now have an opportunity to influence the development priorities of their communities by working with their respective councillors to identify projects that could have the greatest impact.
