Nigerian Polytechnics to Convert Academic Staff without Master's Degrees to Non-Academic Roles

Some Nigerian Polytechnics have announced a new policy regarding the academic qualifications of its staff.

The polytechnics state that academic staff holding a Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) must obtain a Master’s degree within five years of employment. Failure to do so will result in a conversion from academic to non-teaching staff.

This decision follows a directive from Nigeria’s National Board for Technical Education, citing concerns over the lack of higher academic qualifications among staff in Technical, Vocational Education, and Training (TVET) institutions. The policy takes immediate effect.
