Nigerian Army lay siege in Rivers community over colleague’s death

Men of the Nigerian Army have laid siege at Rundele Community, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, over the alleged murder of a soldier in the area.

It was gathered on Saturday that soldiers had an altercation with some alleged oil thieves in the area, which led to the death of one of their men.

The soldiers, after confirming the death of their colleague, invaded the community.

A source within the community, who confirmed the development, alleged that the fully armed soldiers have taken over the community and are allegedly destroying property.

He said, “It was because of this bunkering issue. They tried to stop some bunkering boys yesterday. They had a gunfight and one of the army officers went down yesterday.

“So, currently there are so many soldiers in the community, they are stopping movement. No movement in Ndele right now.

“They’re not shooting but anybody that they see moving around, they beat the person. They are patrolling right now in the community.”

The Public Relations Officer of the Six Division, Nigerian Army, Iweha Onyekonachi, is yet to respond to text messages as regards the development
